BFMM presenting in partnership with alliantgroup - IRS Update Series
On August 22nd, 2013 BFMM & Co. was pleased to host an IRS update with former IRS Commissioner, Mark Everson at the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, RI. Mr. Everson addressed several areas of concern that will likely have an impact on taxpayers and practitioners. Mr. Everson explained that we are currently in the middle of a “Perfect Storm” at the IRS. IRS senior management is retiring; the IRS is under significant funding restraints; career IRS agents and examiners are shifting their focus more towards the middle market; the IRS is charged with administering many complex provisions of the Affordable Care Act; and struggling with the effects of identity theft throughout the system. To top it all off, there is currently turmoil associated with the political targeting of tax exempt associations and serious questions of mismanagement across the agency.
Currently, Mark Everson is the Vice Chairman of alliantgroup, who formerly served as Commissioner of Internal Revenue from 2003 to 2007. Prior to joining the IRS, Everson held other posts in the George W. Bush administration as Deputy Director for Management for the Office of Management and Budget and Controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management. Everson also served in the Ronald Reagan administration from 1982 until 1988 holding several positions at the United States Information Agency and the Department of Justice, where he was deputy commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. While at INS, he oversaw implementation of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, landmark legislation providing for sanctions against employers hiring illegal immigrants and granting amnesty to qualifying illegal immigrants.
Everson has been working with alliantgroup since 2009, helping CPA’s and businesses better understand tax incentives and giving insights on compliance with the IRS. Mark has recently been quoted or appeared on CNBC, Forbes, Fox News and The Washington Post. BFMM could not be more thrilled to host this latest update series.
